Groupon is a deals platform built on discounted offers, originally group-buying and now largely local services and experiences.

For consumers it is a route to restaurants, activities and services at a discount; for merchants it is a customer acquisition channel where the discount and the platform's commission both come out of margin.

That economics is the thing to model carefully: the campaign only pays off if a meaningful share of discount buyers return at full price.
