Apple Pay is a contactless payment service on Apple devices, storing card details in a device-specific token rather than transmitting the actual card number.

That tokenization is a genuine security improvement over a physical card: the merchant never receives your card number, and a compromised transaction cannot be replayed elsewhere.

Acceptance depends on the merchant supporting contactless payment, which is near-universal in some countries and patchy in others.
