OpenTable is a restaurant reservation platform widely used in North America and several other markets.

Its value for diners is availability in real time: seeing which tables are actually open rather than calling to find out, including at short notice.

For restaurants it is a booking system plus a discovery channel, with the corresponding cost — per-cover fees mean the reservation is not free to the restaurant, which is part of why some prefer direct booking.
