arXiv is the open preprint repository where much of physics, mathematics, computer science and quantitative biology is published before — or instead of — formal journal review.

In machine learning especially it has become the primary channel: significant results routinely appear here months before any conference or journal version, so following the relevant category listing is how practitioners keep current.

Because papers are moderated for scope rather than peer-reviewed for correctness, quality varies widely. Check whether a paper was later published, whether the results were reproduced, and who cites it before relying on it.
